It has been 6 months since the UPC agreement entered into force. It is therefore time to have an overview of the requests for unitary effect.

To date, 15,538 requests for unitary effect have been filed, which represents 16.5% of patents granted in Europe.

As expected, an increase in the number of requests was observed. More surprisingly, it seems that the number of unitary effect requests that are monthly filed is now relatively stable as shown in this graph produced by the European Patent Office:
